Review of Kanye West's Yeezus, in Poetic Form

“I’m full of bad ideas, mostly
when my ear is to the universe”

A response to the album Yeezus by Kanye West, in the form of a poem by John Barrios.

+ + +

I'm full of bad ideas, mostly
when my ear is to the universe, I do

the opposite of what is recommended
because why -

all done, all said, all written before
but to see through an idea
just
to see it through
intentionally obtuse, in the face

of a narrative arch
can be an object of art

like how I can make an 'S' look sexy
when I'm a little drunk

like the first time you hear an album
which changes the way you listen

in the act
of listening

a slight shift makes
all the difference
